Now I'm no expert, I'm not an immigration agent, I'm just ya average guy who happens to have a way with words and did a fair amount of study into the requirements of what is required to get a visa. I've been knocked back twice but I've had 3 visas approved.

I will tell you what I have done, what info I have picked up along the way and a few suggestions of stuff you must keep on top of. I have included copies of the letters of refusals so you can see what type of things the Aussie embassy have refused visa's for and I have included copies of letters of "Invitation and Support" that I have used, I wouldn't suggest using them by just changing details to suit yourself, I would fully write your own but pick up on the things I have used in my letters, wouldn't want to see 20 Tourist visa applications land at the embassy with 20 letters of support all looking much the same would we?? J

I'm only finding things out via my own trial and error and believe it or not the 2 letters of refusal that were sent to HK have been the most helpful documents I have. Nowhere is there anything listed of what you need to supply with an application to help you prepare or lodge it. Only lots of reading the many different applications have I come across bits and pieces like the following;

Under the Migration Act 1958, decision-makers are not obliged to seek additional information from the applicant before making a decision on a visa application. It is therefore in the applicant's best interest to submit the following documentation with their application:

  • Evidence of funds;
  • Evidence of your travel/medical insurance;
  • Medical examination or tests;
  • A letter from your employer confirming your leave;
  • Evidence of enrolment at school, college or university;
  • If visiting close family in Australia (who is a citizen or permanent resident of Australia), a letter of invitation to visit;
  • Other information that you have an incentive and authority to return to your country of residence.
