Tropix Bar Real Street (Just across from the Orchid Inn Hotel) Balibago Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. Website address: http://www.tropix-ac.com/index.php Operating hours: 7PM to 3AM Welcome to Tropix bar yet another quality bar in the ever expanding stable of the Doll House group. Tropix is the smallest bar in the Doll House group and as a result the most intimate and certainly the most customer/girl interactive. What is now Tropix was originally Cleopatra and let me be the first to say the bar has come a long way since those days. Being situated on Real Street previously meant being 100 yards from success but with the rapid development that has gone on in this area this is no longer the case. In fact thanks partly to the doll house group and their development of bars such as Tropix and Crystal Palace Real Street is now a significant part of the Angeles bar scene. Right from the start Tropix stands out as being part of the Doll House group because of the numerous door girls and their funky colored wigs. Being situated on Real Street the door girls and their ability to call In the customers is an important facet of this bar. Personally whilst I understand the importance of good door girls I cannot quite grasp the brightly colored wigs but I will concede that they stand out and are something different from the norm. In the Doll House group for me Tropix stands out. This is not because it is the biggest or the best bar but because they have customer friendly foreign managers who are pro active in dealing with the customers and their queries. Secondly because it is smaller and seemingly less commercialized than the other Doll House group bars there is a warmer more traditional ambience in this bar and certainly more interaction between the girls and the customers. ![]() The infamous Sloppy is now in charge of Tropix Tropix is a unique design as it has a pseudo Hawaiian or Polynesian feel to it. This feel is created by the mock South Sea island artwork that predominates throughout the bar The extensive use of woodwork and island paraphernalia. The use of bamboo for the stage front. The bikinis which mostly feature a Polynesian type floral design. ![]() Extensive use of wood around the wet bar area... and by the solid large wooden tables which are designed to look like they were part of a giant packing crate. Another unique feature of Tropix is the compass which is painted on the far wall. Like the other Doll House group bars Tropix has an emphasis on not only normal dancers but also a select dance group called the Spotlight Dancers. The Spotlight Dancers in Tropix are dressed in a T/Back and their upper torso is covered with body paint. The body painted girls dance both on the stage and the large wooden tables that are scattered throughout the bar. This table dancing is a great idea and, albeit somewhat reminiscent of the sixties ago go dancers, it serves the purpose of bringing the girls closer to the customers.
There are also a number of other routines the spotlight girls engage in but for these they are joined by the cultural dancers and the emphasis is on having fun and entertainment rather than on a professional dance type routine. Tropix like most good bars works on many levels. Firstly, for the customers who like to get in the thick of things there are a series of seats right in front of the stage. For the customers who like to sit back a little bit and get a better overall view there are a series of solid wooden tables which can seat up to six people comfortably as well as supplying a handy stage for the table dancers. In the back level there are little secluded areas, a long couch and several hidden little nooks and crannies. The entire back area is dimly lit and allows customers the desired amount of privacy and intimacy. One thing I really liked about Tropix was their waitresses. These girls seemed comparatively knowledgeable about the drinks and they were attentive, informative, friendly and fun loving. Best of all there were some nice lookers as well. Tropix is a perfect bar for a party and the girls are always up for some festivities, what’s more, in my opinion on any given night the spotlight dance group comprises some seriously hot looking girls and even though their EWR may be 3000 Piso they are certainly a cut above your average dancer. As anybody who has read my previous articles will know I am not a big fan of so called show girls but I must admit, the Tropix body painted Spotlight Dancers, certainly know how to turn on a show and with their table dancing they create direct interaction with the customer which in turn takes the concept of show girls too the next level. Basic facts: Number of dancers: - 30 plus free style dancers - 16 cultural dancers - 18 spotlight dancers - 14 waitress - 12 door-girls Currently, Tropix management are actively recruiting more staff and at the time of writing I was told there is a new mamasan getting her girls licensed, and once this is complete, she and her dancers will be joining Tropix. Manager: Sloppy Being part of the Doll House group, Tropix is very much a show bar. The Spotlight dancers perform every night of the week as do the cultural dancers. They also host dog house and have special shows every Friday night with the Hawaiian Aloha night. Seating capacity: The bar can seat up to 60 people comfortably but when pushed could easily go as high as 80 people at one time. Prices: Local drink 85 piso Imported drinks 150 piso through to 175 and 250 piso for top shelf Cognac Ladies drinks 150 normal and a bottle drink 250 piso EWR: 1,350 for normal dancers and 3,000 for the Spotlight Dancers. The normal dancers wear white number tags and the Spotlight Dancers wear green neon number tags. Bell ring: 5500 No happy hour Tropix is a great medium sized bar with a party atmosphere created by some fun loving dancers, some hot looking show girls, just the right amount of space and a strong south sea island theme throughout the bar. The prices are in line with other mainstream bars and Sloppy the current manager is always quick to slide regular clients a drink or three along the way. Currently Tropix does not offer an AE discount however negotiations with Doll House management are underway and we hope to be able to secure the appropriate discount for AE members in the very near future. ![]() Return To Reviews Index |
