PROLOGUE: Brooke Is Maybe Too Young

Brooke Is Maybe Too Young

Ahhhh yes.
My second trip to Angeles City.
The glorious end of an itchy four-month PPD (Post-Philippine Depression) infection.
Finally. (!)

As you may have read elsewhere in this section, my cherry trip in was merely a four-day Angeles frenzy that blended great comical disappointment with great wondrous pleasures. We all have our reasons, I guess. The fuel that propelled me to AC the first time was curiosity. The vehicle was Asian Escapades. The pilots were Mjibbo, Shagger, and others, if only with their prose.

For this second trip, I had big plans for a fantasy tropical vacation with “Spinner”, whom I met on my very last night of my very first trip. I was thinking “Blue Lagoon”, circa 1980 here. I get to be Christopher Atkins, and Spinner gets to be Brooke Shields. (ok, under-aged Brooke’s body-double, anyway)

Oh, but wait.
First, I had a debt to repay. You see, I blew right through this dusty town the first time around without even meeting anyone from AE. (Hey, I was on a mission) This time I needed to bring presents for two of the guys whose internet personas introduced me to this little hidden nirvana: Shagger and Mjibbo…

Chapter 8: The Nightlife

Chapter 8

The Nightlife

So far I have only dabbled in the nightlife here. I have discovered many pleasures during the daytime and early evening hours. As far as I was concerned, I would have been content to continue that practice for my entire stay in AC. Indeed many people ONLY venture out during the day, that is the life they have become accustomed to. They have jobs and family obligations that only afford them a few daylight hours in which to indulge their carnal compunctions, some are just plain “early birds”. Whatever the reasons, I can certainly understand their desire to keep it that way.

It was time to experience what the night had to offer here. Time to see for myself what all the “hubbub” was about. I got my answers, in spades. Nighttime on Fields Avenue is where the party people come to indulge. It starts at about 6pm and lasts as long as you can keep up with it. Most places, I found, close at 2am to 3am, but a few go until the sun comes up. The music is loud, the booze flows freely, the girls party hard and the guys loose their sanity, innocence, inhibitions and sometimes even a few personal items (but that’s rare and only if your not careful).

Walking from my hotel to Fields (about 1 block away) I am accosted by “street vendors” trying to sell their wares. Viagra, Cialis (and other male enhancement needs), umbrellas (when its raining and whether you have one or not), CD’s, DVD’s, nick nacks, food, watches, sunglasses (whether your wearing any or not) and all manner of junk. They rarely take no for an answer the first time you say it. From these people I learned patience and tolerance. 10 to 12 trike drivers will ask if you need a ride, yet when you want one you always have to yell for one, go figure. Freelancers will propostion you, some wanting something to eat for a blow job, some wanting to go back to your hotel, some wanting you to have some fun with them and their sister,or cousin, or niece. I even had one ask me if I would like to take her daughter for a date. I have read the boards enough by now to know to stay away (even run away) from these situations whenever they present themselves.

Now I am on Fields. Do I go to the beginning of the street and start from there, or the other end. Fuck it, it doesn’t matter, start at the first one you come to. They are all the same to a degree…loud music, cold beer, cool aircon and pretty young girls. I decided to ease into the nightlife here instead of wading in head first and selected a bar that I had heard of on the boards. A so called “low pressure” bar, supposedly the best of its kind. This is the advice given to “newbies” so as not to go through some kind of shock at what they were about to experience. Newbies, I never really like that term as it carried a tone of arrogance from those that used it, although it is the most accurate, eventually I came to accept it and nowadays I even use it myself, but with no malice intended.

So I enter this bar I had heard so much about, “Streethouse” or “Alleyhouse”, something like that. I should note at this point, there were no door girls at this bar urging you to “Come inside sir”, just a couple of guards who would open the door for you and say “Welcome sir”. Kinda odd I thought at the time. I was greeted by a waitress who guided me to my seat and took my drink order, which was served promptly. She stood near by, but not so near as to seem like hovering. I watched the girls dance, more like slow shuffle (even to faced paced music), and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Occasionaly they would all do a choreographed step they had obviously devised themselves, kinda like you would expect from some high school kids. The mamasans were steadily watching the girls to make sure ALL participated at ALL times and that ALL obeyed the rules (no nudity or hassling customers). This after all was the trademark of this place.

I found this to be refreshing. I stayed quite a while. I “toyed” with the waitresses, seems they like to take your ashtray and replace it with a fresh one at the first sign of dirtiness, by hiding my ashtray behind me until I finished my smoke (and even after). An “icebreaker” at the very least. I noticed a cute dancer making eyes at me for sometime, so I asked the waitress (who I nicknamed “Trainee”) if she was allowed to sit with me. She relayed my request to the girl, and she came over and introduced herself, “Hello sir, my name is somethingLynn, then she sat there quietly smiling. We talked for a few minutes and I offered her a drink, and we generally had a good time for several hours.

I found out later that about 1/3 of the girls here have the LYNN extension to their names. Roselynn, Annalynn, Annlynn, Rinalynn and on and on. I also found they have extended families, and I mean extended. Every girl I have talked to up to this day comes from a large family, 5 brothers and 3 sisters seems to be the norm, and then there are the cousins. They seem to have “cousins” working in every city and every bar throughout the land. If you take a girl bar hopping with you, guaranteed you will meet, at least 1, of her cousins. I think this is more of a “sisterhood” type of term meaning a good friend they have known for a long time that they choose to introduce as a cousin.

It is the policy of this bar, and several others like it, to make the customer feel relaxed and offer up NO pressure to buy drinks for the girls. We as a customer will decide who sits with us and who gets a drink and when. Never, that I have seen, has a girl, mamasan or waitress ever asked me for a drink or to buy a drink for their friend (or cousin). That definitely adds to the appeal of this place, along with the girls of course. This place became a favorite nighttime stop for me during my stay, and subsequent stays also. Whenever I enter I am greeted with a loud cheer from the stage and staff, even a year later. Well run, well maintained and well managed, this is truly a good choice as a “newbies” first stop.

This bar is famous for two reasons. The first I stated above, the second is a certain dance number they will do for you upon request. It just so happens to be choreographed around a favorite tune of mine from AC/DC, and it is a thing to behold. It has often been imitated in other places but NEVER has it been duplicated to the precision and enthusiasm of the girls from “Streethouse”. It works particularly well in part because of the uniforms the girls wear, high rising tops and high riding skirts. If you doubt me, you can find a video of it on the internet at their website.

Now I had a taste of the “low pressure” bars, I was ready for something a little more spicier, so I thought. I walked a short distance to the one 24/7 bar in the city (I’m pretty sure there is only 1). Yelled at, laughed at, whispered at and even sung to by door girls from several bars as I walked to the 24 hour bar, I was never touched and often times stopped to joke with the girls about something or other all the while stating I would be back later, a lie to be sure but a harmless one they can live with. When I reached my destination I was immediately “grabbed” by a couple of girls and dragged into this place. They held me in such a manner as to present the appearance of escorting me in, but it was out and out dragging. As I was going in anyway I didn’t offer much resistance.

At the exact same moment a waitress led me to a seat, no less than 6 girls, ran full tilt to join me. Three were just downright ugly, two were on the cusp of being underage and I immediately shooed those two away only to be replaced by two others who were “cherry girls” and the third was non descript, a sort of “plain jane”. I admit I was taken by surprise and ordered a round of drinks for all of us, what they brought back to the table was seven drinks for us PLUS 2 for the girls I shooed away, and a request to buy 3 for the mamasans. Having read on the boards to treat the mamasans well, I agreed to the order.

While drinking my beer and watching my cigarettes disappear 2 and 3 at a time and listening to the girls talk among themselves, I found myself getting over the initial shock of this place. It was quite large, 2 floors in fact. There had to be, at a conservative estimate, 50 or more girls there not counting waitresses. They had a small dance stage in the center of the bottom floor that could fit maybe 8 girls dancing comfortably. They wore these ridiculous white boots that looked like something KISS had discarded back in the early 80’s. The poor girls could barely lift their legs to walk let alone dance in them. Their outfits consisted of swimsuits (all wearing the same color) with an occasional girl wearing a thong (here referred to as a T BACK). Of the 50 or so girls at this place, I would make an “uninebriated” guess that maybe 5 or 6 were not bad looking.

As I finished my beer, the girls all “gulped” the rest of their drinks and one of them called for the waitress and ordered more drinks. I hadn’t finished looking around yet so I dismissed this without a thought. Still the girls talked to themselves, the “cherry girls” sat by themselves drinking the second round I had no intention of ordering, the mamasans were no where in sight, having had their free drinks from me they left without a word and disappeared into the back somewhere. I did notice there were a few customers in here, mostly sitting on sofa type seating that went all the way around half the bar, surrounded by girls and some taking pictures. This place has not much interaction from the girls EXCEPT to get their drinks, then you will be ignored, yet some guys seem to like this place.

Why are most of the bars here successful, because everyone likes something different. Everyone has a favorite place to go regardless of what someone else thinks of the place, and they defend them zealously. Too each his own. A word about “cherry girls”. These are virgins and as rule of thumb are not to be bf’ed for sexual purposes. There are exceptions to this rule, but we won’t go into that right now. Mainly they are used as “eye candy” for the bars, pretty young things to attract customers inside. They will sit with you and drink and even talk a little bit but are basically hands off. Cherry girls have normally been only working in a particular bar for a short time, maybe 1 or 2 months. They are shy, scared, nervous and just in some kind of emotional turmoil, they can put a damper on a good night fast. I have learned to accept them for what they are, and even enjoy their company now. They feel safe with me and I feel safe with them. Also they usually have some very pretty friend who is NOT a cherry girl, motives are rarely selfless.

Well, I have had enough of this place. I call the waitress to pay my bill, she leaves then returns with a “3500 pesos only sir”. Upon hearing this, the girls gulp again then scurry away without so much as a by your leave, the cherry girls have vanished also. I paid the bill, vowing to myself to never return or even walk past, and gave no tip to the waitress, she understood why without me saying a word. My bill was “padded”. At the previous bar, I spent twice the time and about the same amount of drinks and paid only ½ of what they charged me here. From now on I keep the bill cup beside me wherever I go and nobody is allowed to touch it, I check it every so often to make sure no shenanigans are going on and nothing is being added without my knowledge. I don’t say this happens everywhere, but it does happen.

I have just witnessed the two opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to bars on Fields Avenue. In between are numerous places I have found to be very enjoyable. In fact I find that any bar (with 1 exception so far) can be a fun place to be, it depends on what your expecting when you walk in and your own personality you bring inside. If you’re a fun loving person, you will mostly find fun loving places and people. If your on the “pussy prowl” your going to be disappointed in most of the bars. The attitudes of the girls change from customer to customer and how they are treated. If you walk into a bar with the premise your going to spend some pesos and get everyone to have a good time, you will be treated like a king (worth every centavo in my opinion) If you walk into a bar, pull a girl from the stage, buy 2 drinks then leave on a bf, you will be forgotten quickly, if your remembered it will be in a negative way.

Fields Avenue at night is the place to be if you want to party. You are guaranteed to come across at least ½ a dozen places that you like and 1/2 a dozen you don’t like, and everyone will have a different opinion on each of them. The girls are just as varied. Some tall (4’9 to 5’) and some are short (4’2” to 4’6”), some are chubby and some are anorexic, some are drop dead gorgeous and some are just butt ugly, some are sweet and innocent (almost childlike) and some are outright bitches(depending if their menstruating or not). There are girls for every taste, so by all means start tasting and enjoy the nightlife.

Chapter 5: Catch Your Breath

Chapter 5

Catch Your Breath

The girls are gone now. The room attendants have cleaned the room, changed the sheets and provided fresh towels. I have been swimming for about an hour and catching some more sun, when my mates from last night showed up at the bar. I joined them and related my heroic tale of conquest with the 3 little lovelies from the first bar we stopped at. They seconded my opinion, that I should not have bf’ed from the first bar I went to, but tried to prolong the choosing until I found the right one(s). But they did understand my decision, as they have “been there and done that” themselves. “Silly bastard, we were all “cherry boys” at one time.”. I thanked them again with a round of drinks, and declined the offer to join them tonight as I wasn’t feeling 100%, they said I looked a little run down and that they knew what was coming. I headed back to my room, took a shower and decided to lay down for a nap under the nice cool aircon, before heading out for a bit of dinner.

When I laid down, it was about 4pm. When I awoke, it was about noon the next day. 20 hours of sleep, no fucking way. I called the front desk to confirm the time and sure enough, it was indeed almost noon. I just found out the true meaning of “jet lag”. Those Aussie swine should have warned me. I don’t know if everybody is affected the same way, but for me, too much sleep is just as bad as not enough sleep. My ass was dragging low the whole day, but I was determined not to waste anymore of my precious time on this trip I have been planning for about 7 or 8 months. I ventured out into the world about 2pm. First stop was the meeting place from the other day, where I got some food in me, that seemed to make me feel a little better. I wandered up and down the main drag, Fields Avenue, looking into the little shops for souvenirs for the friends and family back home. I never would have guessed that in a town with hundreds of bars, it would be near impossible to find souvenir shot glasses (for my brother). I settled for T Shirts, caps, nick nacks of all sorts. Back to the hotel to dump of this crap.

Its now 5pm and time is wastin. I hailed a trike and prepared for my first trip to the mall on McArthur Hwy. If you have never ridden in a trike before, your in for a treat. For better or worse it is a unique experience. Basically they are just motorcycles with side cars. Unfortunately for the foreigner, who all average about a foot taller than the average Filipino, they are very cramped and the plastic roofs are low enough to make you hunch. When its raining, you are glad even for a low roof. They way these drivers navigate McArthur Hwy., which has possibly the worst traffic I have ever seen in my life, will astound you. In and out of lanes, sometimes making their own lanes, speeding up til your right on the bumper of the vehicle in front of you, turning into oncoming traffic and praying they will slow down so as not to squash you, chasing pedestrians, ignoring traffic cops (what a joke they are). All to get the measly 50 to 100 peso fare. I guess it’s not so measly to them.

Into the mall I go. At the main door are armed guards. I don’t mean the pistol packing rent-a-cops we are used to seeing in the states, these guys are loaded for bear, full out assault rifles, quite an intimidating sight I assure you, but with a smile they open the door for me and welcome me inside. I head to the nearest store I can find that sells cell phones, I need one while I was in town in case of trouble. Also I needed somewhere to store the few numbers I got from the “freelancers” when I was arriving. All the while I was there I never noticed any public telephones. I bought a phone, kind of mid range price wise, and added a P300 load to it. I was all set to go back to the hotel when I noticed a particular restaurant I had heard so much about, Jollibee. The little voice in the back of my head said “Don’t do it!”, but I just had to try it out. If your into “fast food” then by all means go ahead and try it, even by those standards the food is terrible. Lesson learned. As I was here anyways, I decided to pick up some neccessaties, condoms, bio flu (in case I get sick, truly a wonderous drug), some ointment for small scrapes and scratches, candy for the girls (Hershey Kisses are always accepted with a joyful outburst), little gifts for the over night guests (T back panties, sunglasses, hair pins and wraps) little things they can use but don’t often buy for themselves. Arms loaded with packages, I headed back to the hotel.

Its now nearing 9pm and I am exhausted. Another short dip in the pool and a few beers, then its time to hit the sack. I toyed with the idea of texting one of the “freelancers”, but decided to pass on that for now. Sleep was all I needed. About midnight I finally doze off, fucking Wowowee must be on all day and all night, and once you watch it your hooked. 8am comes bright and early. I am awake now and feel like a new man. Full of energy and ready to go. The 3 S’s out of the way and off I go to the other “meeting place”. A lot like the first, but larger with screened in windows to keep the bugs out. About ½ way down Fields avenue, and not really that far of a walk. Its about 10am and not many people about except the locals scurrying here and there. The place is filled with waitresses, some exceedingly pretty and some not so much, but all with big smiles for everyone who walks in. Some even have time to play some pool with each other, whilst waiting for the next customer to walk in.

One thing I think most of us who have been there can agree on, whether you like the food or not, you DO get giant sized portions. Your money is not wasted when you dine out. In all the times I have been there, I cannot remember ever finishing a meal, there is just too much. Thus you learn the term “take away”, for westerners that means “doggy bag”. I do it all the time. Sometimes I give it to the girls at the hotel counter, sometimes I give it to the doormen, sometimes I give it to the girls in the bars, sometimes I will even give it to the children begging in the streets, but it NEVER goes to waste. I could never hold my head up in public if I had thrown away food in a poverty ridden country.

Now all the while I am eating at my window seat, I keep seeing lovely young girls walking by, going about there business whatever it may be. The urge starts to build again. Its about noon now and its time to try out a little thing called A. Santos Street for what has been termed a “short time”. That would be barfining a girl, from these bars that specialize in that sort of thing, for about 3 hours instead of all night. I suppose you could “short time” a girl from any bar, but it seems like the Santos Street bars were made just for this purpose. Back to the hotel for a freshen up then one block over and one block down and Im in the middle of “Blow Row” (an affectionate nickname I’m sure). There are about a dozen or so of these tiny little bars, all open air fronts with more girls sitting there than you can shake a dick at, each one beconning you to “Come inside sir”. I stop at one with a pirate sounding name (Parrots Perch or something on that order) and take a seat by the front. No less than 5 girls scamper over and ask “What you like to drink sir?”. San Miguel Light has become my drink of choice here, back at home it was always rum&coke, but this beer I like a lot. The girls sit with me and tell me I’m “gwapo”, later I find that that’s a good thing. I tell them they are all very pretty, but one of them is VERY “maganda” and has nice “susu’s”. I learned those words from the boards, now I get to use them. I wouldn’t tell them which one I was talking about and that they would have to guess, a fun little game indeed.

At first they are shy and they tell me “You make bola bola nah”. That means they think I’m bullshitting them. So I tell them the winner gets “short time” and P500 prize. Nothing brings out the pixie in these girls like a little competition. Off come the tops for all passersby to see and I get to judge the best “susu’s” (tits). Now I have my eye on a certain girl, she doesn’t have the biggest tits but she has a very pretty face and a fine body overall. With some testing for firmness and excitability (tweeking the nipples), I choose the one I wanted. I buy a round of lady’s drinks for all the girls (a lot cheaper on Santos street than the main bars on Fields), and we sit and talk for a while. After about an hour I pay my bill, including the “short time” fee (P500 or P600 something like that) and we walk hand in hand back to my hotel. We have 3 hours so I invite her for a short dip in the pool and she gleefully accepts that as if it were the highlight of the year for her. She really enjoyed swimming and playing in the pool, and I was glad to see her having a good time. We grab a quick sandwich at the bar, then head to the room.

I am starting to notice now that the very first thing these girls want to do is take a shower. That pleases me to no end as the last thing I want to do is go down on a sweaty smelly pussy. She invites me to join her so I can wash her back and she can wash mine. I think deep down she just wanted to make sure she didn’t have to go down on a sweaty smelly dick. We washed and fondled for a while, then I carried her still wet body to the bed (she weighed only about 75 or 80 pounds soaking wet). She “tossed my salad”, which I never dreamed in a million years would ever happen, then went to work on the little soldier as she straddled my eager mouth (69 is a true magical number). She did almost a hand stand and flipped her body over and mounted me in one deft maneuver. Agile things these Filipinas. She would grind away, and just when I was ready to release, she would stop, waiting patiently then start again bringing me to the brink over and over until I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. Finally she went into overdrive and pounded away until she and I both released at the same time, she knew what she wanted and knew how to get it. The 3 hours were almost up now, we cuddled for a little while, then I gave her the P500 prize for best “susu’s” and a P300 tip, she earned every peso. She showered quickly and I walked her back to the bar, I had 1 beer and left to go home to have a shower and a good sleep. That is how you catch your breath in the Philippines.

Chapter 4: Ahhhh, The Philippines

Chapter 4

Ahhhh, The Philippines

Into the comfortable, airconditioned car I go. Stopping at a refreshment stand for a couple of cokes for me and the driver (I call him Petey, as I can’t pronounce his name). Now I settle back and prepare for the 2 to 3 hour drive (so I read somewhere) on my final leg of the journey I have been anticipating for so long. I take a few sips of my drink and have another smoke, opening the window to allow the second hand smoke to escape so as not to bother Petey was a huge misstake…..more air pollution. I close my eyes and prepare for an hour (or 2) nap. What seems like 10 seconds passes when I feel the car make a sharp turn, opening my eyes in time to see us turning off the highway I check my watch, 45 minutes have passed since I “nodded off”. I feel better now. I assumed I was now in for a few hours of pot hole ridden, dirt road travel and braced my sore ass for the long haul.

About 10 minutes later we passed under a banner reading “Welcome to Barangay Balibago”, or something like that. I knew from my research I was going to Balibago, but had no idea how big it was or how near the hotel we were. Another 10 minutes of side street driving and navigating brought me safely (and surprisingly) to the hotel front entrance. The 2 to 3 hour drive from Manila took only 1 hour and 15 minutes, give or take a few minutes either way. That got Petey a decent tip (about P1000). Later I would learn the value/problems of tipping too much in the Philippines. In my youth I have had jobs in the service industry, and as anyone else who has held those jobs does, we normally tip more than the average.

I want to back up just a bit to the point we were driving on the side streets. That is where I got my first, up close, real look, at beautiful young Filipinas. Freelancers, as I would later come to know them, would saunter (sometimes run) up to the car whenever we slowed down to make a turn or allow a pedestrian to pass by. The first 2 or 3 just waved and seemed to wait for a response from me. All I could do was grin (ear to ear) sheepishly. Just seeing them roused my loins to attention, and when they smiled at me it was all I could do to keep from opening the door and beconning them inside. Between the 4th and 7th ones who wandered over to the car, I decided it would be prudent to exchange cell phone numbers, for a possible carnal interlude at a later time. That turned out to be totally unnecessary.

I have checked in at the front desk, gone to my room, passed out a few P50 tips to the bell boys and room attendants, and settled down on my NOT SO comfortable bed for a little breather and the unimaginable, delightful acceptance that I am finally here, and a weight was lifted from my shoulders (weight being the horrendous experiences of traveling 8,000+ miles). I made myself unpack, and commenced with the 3 S’s again and sat on the bed, air conditioner on full blast, and decided after a few minutes I would change and go for a swim, then get something to eat. Instead, I laid back to rest my eyes while cooling off and then awoke with a start from a most tantalizing dream involving 3 of the “freelancers” I had encountered earlier only to find it was now some 8 hours later. It is now 5am, Philippine time, and my first night here was spent alone. I wanted to cry. Instead, I ordered some room service (outstanding food), watched some TV and generally paced around the room til about noon. I went for a swim, and got a little bit of sun, ate some lunch at the poolside bar, and just generally “chilled” for awhile.

I was drinking my 3rd San Miguel Light, when a bunch of Australians entered the bar and started discussing the prior days football scores. Not wanting to be the odd man out, I introduced my self to some of them and bought a round of drinks. Some 3 hours later, my new friends invited me on my first bar hop. Back to my room to do the 3 S’s again ( I knew I didn’t want to be caught short in a 3rd world bar having to use the CR) and change to some “intelligent” clothing. Shorts, short sleeved shirt and flip flops (in the PI referred to as slippers). A little after shave and some cologne and I was all set. NOTE: DO NOT put on after shave immediately after you shave. Remember Home Alone and what happened to Macully Culkin? Then I got the call from Kevin, one of my new mates, saying they were all meeting at the favorite hangout/restaurant/bar/starting point of most of the foreigners that come to Angeles. It was located on the corner of all the action, and incidently, only 2 blocks from my hotel. Dodging trikes, street vendors trying to sell me Viagra or Cialis or DVD’s or other unnecessary items, “freelancers”, beggars. Motorcycles and cars, I made it there in about 10 minutes.

We stayed there for as long as it took to drink a beer, then made our way across the street to a rather run down looking bland little bar, I was not impressed UNTIL we walked inside. Bigger on the inside and looking as modern as any western upscale bar I have ever seen. The music blasted my ears into submission, and my eyes squinted to narrow little slits trying to pierce the darkness. Then I saw them, up on a stage of sorts, dressed in almost nothing, and doing what I could not in all good conscience call dancing, but trying to move to the music as best they could or wanted to. Pretty young Filipinas, lbfm’s, little maids all in a row. Smiling at me as I entered and saying “Hello Daddy” to the guys I was with, who had obviously made themselves known in this bar before.

We sat down in some very comfortable seats at a table known as the VIP TABLE. Later I would understand what this was for. Immediately a waitress walked up to us and said “Hello Daddy Kevin, how are you nah”, after some chit chat between the 2 she took our drink orders and wandered away, Kevin followed her and whispered something to into her ear and gave her a little pinch on the bottom, she turned and looked directly at me and giggled and said something back to Kevin. He sat back down and I asked why she was laughing at me to which he replied “Don’t be paranoid you bloody bugger, were gonna show you yanks how to have a “good time”, Philippine style.” “It’s sort of an initiation, just relax mate.”.

Shortly, our waitress brought our drinks and with her followed a rather portly, over middle aged woman called Mommy Matilda (or something like that). She was the “mamasan” of this bar. I knew what that was from my endless researching about the nightlife in Angeles City. “Hello Jeffery (not my real name of course because noone needs to know it for the purposes of this story), welcome to my bar”. “Sir Kevin tells me your “cherry boy”, is that true?”. After my mates told me what a “cherry boy” was, I told the mamasan it was true. She said I was lucky cause all the girls like cherry boys. Still not quite knowing what to expect, I savored my beer(s) and started to notice that behind my back, all me mates were pointing there fingers over my head and shouting “CHERRY BOY”.

Soon a new set of dancers climbed up onto the stage and the first set, all 12 of them, made their way to our table. We ordered “lady’s drinks” for all and 3 of them latched onto me. Grabbing my crotch, playing with my nipples, rubbing my head, making an “L” sign under my chin and generally flirting their little hearts out with me, I was truly in a single guys paradise. Within an hours time I learned what a “blow job” was, what a “body shot” was, a “lady’s drink”, a “ring the bell” and last but not least, what a “bar fine” was. So I barfined 3 lovely young beauties, and we commenced with our barhopping. Bar after bar we visited, and each held girls that were more and more beautiful and desirable. It was then I realized that it was not a good idea to bar fine from the first bar you visit. But I was still happy with the 3 I had in tow.

We started out at about 6pm and it was now nearing midnight. I kept my drinking under control, switching to mineral water now and again, so as to keep some sense about me. At the girls insistence (and I didn’t argue), I said goodnight to my mates and we headed back to my hotel. After all the bars we stopped at, at the end of the night, I was still only about 2 blocks from my hotel. There are so many damn bars, its almost unimaginable, and most are right next to each other. In fact at one point on Fields Avenue (the main drag), you can go to 15 or so bars and only walk 1 block.

Back at the hotel, I get a knowing grin from the doorman and the girls at the front desk, “Enjoy your night Jeffery, hehe”. Blushing slightly, we all head to my room. The girls tell me they are a little hot and can we go swimming for a little while. Well of course I smiled and said “Sure, why not.”. This being part of the foreplay I decided. As good as they looked in their work outfits, they were even more gorgeous in their street clothes, and then in their bikini’s they were just wet dreams walking. After some cooling off in the pool, they settled down to some snuggling and underwater frolicking with my manliness until I could stand it no more. “Lets go back to the room now babies”. They all held hands and we made our way to the room, where they all went to the CR together to change clothes and take a shower, I called room service and asked for a few more towels and they were quick to oblige.

When the door opened and they all walked out naked as jaybirds like it was a normal everyday thing for them, I knew what was about to happen. It was my turn to shower, and relieve my bladder and generally freshen up (meaning to make myself semi-hard). I could hear through the door they were watching TV. When I returned to the bedroom, they were all sitting on the edge of the bed watching a show called “WOWOWEE”, as I understand it, it’s a favorite among the Filipinas, old and young alike. Not one of them moved a muscle, except to giggle at each other when someone did someone did something foolish on the show, until the show was over, about 40 minutes later. My “semi hardness” long gone now as I caught myself engulfed in that damn show, even though I didn’t understand a word they were saying. Finally the show was over, the TV went off, the lights went low and the girls cuddled all around me. Just feeling the nakedness of them all gave me back my “semi”, and the fun commenced. First 2 with me and 1 by herself, then one with me and 2 with each other, the switching was non stop and all got a taste of the little monster they aroused. I “rewarded” them 3 times, 1 load for each. And I even got 2 of the girls to explode all over each other. We collapsed into a very deep and pleasant sleep.

In the morning, more like early afternoon, they woke up and 2 of them decided they wanted a second helping while the 3rd showered and got dressed. Eager to please, I gave them 2 more “rewards” and decided to take a taste of their hidden pleasures. They taught me the word “masarap”, meaning delicious, that afternoon. We lunched by the pool, then I gave each a P500 tip plus P50 each for trike fare, and sent them on there merry way with goodbye hugs from all. One turned around and shouted for all to hear, “Daddy Jeffery, your not “cherry boy” nah diba”. She said a mouthful. Ahhhhh, the Philippines.

Introduction to a Mongers Life

This series of articles was sent to us by a member who wishes to remain anonymous. They are a great read and we hope you will enjoy them.

A Mongers Life

How does a man become so enamored with a certain place, a certain people, a certain lifestyle, to the point that it becomes his only reason to work, to the point it becomes his only topic of conversation, to the point of obsession. When a man visits Angeles City, his life, at least for a few days or few weeks, becomes perfect in every respect. He may suffer dread sickness, unimaginable hardships, even near death experiences, yet he can imagine himself being no other place in the world.

When you go to Angeles City, especially for the first time, you can imagine no greater pleasurable experience, your every waking moment has become the greatest adventure of your life. When you return to your native home, wherever that may be, you now find yourself going through terrible withdrawals (affectionately known as PPD..Post Philippine Depression). When your there, nothing of your home life matters to you anymore. Family sickness, workplace problems, unpaid bills have no place in you cognitive thinking. When your not there, nothing matters to you more than getting back. Family sickness, workplace problems, unpaid bills all have now become trivial in nature. Somehow you are able to keep them in the perspective of “How will this affect my next trip”.

Is this a good thing? Some would say yes, as it gives a new meaning to our hum drum everyday life. A way to keep unimportant matters from becoming important. A way to fight the dreaded 9 to 5 existence that leaves so many with a numb, stuck in a rut, feeling that plagues our very existence. These are the men who believed there was nothing better in life than working for the weekend, when they could go out with the boys and have a few drinks and spend exorbitant amounts of money just to look at some, less than healthy, unhappy, snobbish women who think we are the dregs of humanity, and then brag about it at work the next day at the water cooler. Some would say no, this is not a good thing. These are the people who have yet to discover the hidden pleasures and treasures of Southeast Asia. All they know is what they hear in the (uninformed) news. To them it is just a “slave traders” paradise. A place where perverts and child molesters go to act out their fantasies with relative impunity to the law and its consequences, and an inhumane disregard for other cultures and other peoples.

Angeles City is a place to go to meet people, that is the ultimate outcome of every visit to this less than modern little town. You will meet online friends who have common interests and common goals. You will meet women/girls here, whose own deep desire is to meet their prince charming who will take them away from a poverty ridden, corrupt environment, yet are just as happy to “date” some men so as to, at least for a day or two, escape their sad life and be treated as they have not been treated before….as a human being. You will meet expats (people from far away countries who choose to live there). These are the people who greet you with their hands out, not expecting you to put anything into their hands, instead expecting you to take their hands in friendship. They will make us feel welcome and comfortable in a strange land with strange customs and ideals.

So what is it that makes us want to come back. What is it that keeps us coming back. What is it that helps us to reaffirm our role in life as MAN. What is it that, on most occasions, makes us a better, happier, healthier human being when we are there than when we are not. I will, humbly, attempt to put into words that which is near impossible to explain to others. Near impossible because most of what “IT” is, is emotion, sub-conscience feelings, life changing experiences that are too personal for some to relate to others in any coherent, logical way. In the next few weeks/months (as this is no small task) I will be relating personal experiences (mine and others), offering my own opinions as well as the opinions of others I have contacted, citing facts that can be verified, should you choose to, and occasionally adding some literary flourish just for the hell of it. It will be entertaining (to some), enlightening (to some), memorable (to some) and just down right dirty fun at times.

Why do I choose to remain anonymous? To add to the flavor of course, but also I choose to be seen as “everyman” who has been through or is about to go through this evolution of first time visitor (cherry boy) to seasoned traveler (mongerer). Thank you and I hope you enjoy this material.

Red’s Cherry Angeles City Trip

I made this trip report for a “Newbie”, like me, in mind. Also… It is kind of a diary for me. I think I rambled too much and got into too much detail but I had to get it out of my system. After finishing this report I thought twice about posting it… but hey… I figured maybe some other new guy might get something from it.

There are a lot of members on AE that know why I came to Angeles. For those of you that don’t I will make a long story short.

I met a girl online from Angeles let’s call her “D”. She is quite lovely and we became friends. We chatted many times a week on yahoo instant messenger. As I learned more about her I found that she hated her job as a dancer on Fields Ave.. She told me all about her family and that she was only working the bars to help her siblings. Her mom left the family when she was young and her Dad has been “missing” since a week after her 18th birthday. He was the only one supporting them and “D” (being the eldest) stopped her studies and entered the bar scene to support her family.

I started to send her money so she could quit the bar scene.

Shortly after I started to send her money I did some research on where she was from and stumbled upon a site called Asian Escapades.

As I started to learn more about life in Angeles through this site my suspicions about her telling me the truth grew. As months passed and it was nearing the time for my first trip to Angeles I had to know if she was being honest with me. The only thing I had that I could check up on is that after I started to send her money she said she got a job at El Sombrero. The job only lasted a few weeks but still it was something that I could try to check up on before my trip.

Two members of AE helped out and in the end I found that El Sombrero never hired her as a waitress. Well by this time my trip was already planned and I figured that if things did not work out with “D” what better place for a single guy to be… right !!! So off I go to Angeles City.

With advice from some of the members here I showed up unannounced to try to make sure she was telling me the truth about her work and life there in Angeles. Again…. I wanted to make sure she was not working in the bars after I started to send her money.

So… My first day in AC I drank beer at Kokonutz because it had the view of La Pasha. La Pasha is where she worked before I started to send her money.

Drinking beer and waiting to see if she would show up for work I was approached by a few freelance girls at Kokonutz. Each freelancer was on the dirty side and definitely on something. I don’t know the drug of choice for these girls but it is not attractive. There eyes where yellow (probably a sign of a more serious problem) and watery. I was begged by two of the three freelancers to use my hotel shower.

As I looked around Kokonutz I noticed that the staff of girls there were quite cute. It made me wonder why the management would let these freelancers rome the room and literally sit beside a guest uninvited and start a conversation. Whatever drug they are on it is not conducive to a good conversation. The freelancers were fidgety and “not all there”.

Maybe this is what some of the tourists like but I failed to see the attraction. Anyway I am sure Mo’s bars are a blast. Kokonutz has a great set up but in my opinion I would have had a better stay there without the freelancers.

***********************************************************************************

Well… I did not see “D” go to work at La Pasha that night and did not want to bar hop alone knowing that I would be meeting some AE members at C’Italian the next night. So I just went back to Wild Orchid Resort and drank beer and had some fun with the staff at Wild Orchid Resort.

Knowing what I know now I should have went into one of the bars and picked a bar fine but I felt a little out of my element and decided to just take it easy. I will not make this mistake again. If you have a free night with no obligations do not spend it alone. Go into any of the places recommended buy this site and have a blast.

Some of the great staff at Wild Orchid Resort.

I took a long walk around Fields and walked into most of the popular hotels just to see what was out there. After the walk I knew I was staying in a great hotel. I am sure everyone has their own opinion on which hotel is best but I plan on staying at Wild Orchid Resort next time I come to AC. The rooms were spotless and bug free. The staff there didn’t just straighten up the rooms everyday. They really cleaned every inch of the place. I thought the room was great. The pool speaks for itself !!!

***********************************************************************************
The next morning I still did not call “D”. At this point I still didn’t know if she has been honest with me over the last eight months and I really wanted to meet the guys from AE and have dinner and a bar hop before calling her. This was not a mistake!

Well…. What a dinner it was. I arrived to see a table full of people in a really nice room that Jung and Netguard procured at C’Italian.

Most of the guys at AE know how great C’Italian is BUT LISTEN UP !!!! To all you newbies like me. C’Italian has the best food in Angeles. It is truly the only place that I had a meal that was just perfect. I spend most of my time in New York City. Anyone that has ever been to NYC knows that the food in NYC is exceptional (if you stay away from the tourist traps). Well… I traveled half a world away and found exceptional food at C’Italian.

Bring your date there, meet your friends there or go alone and have the best meal in Angeles City…. (order the PANNIZZA)

Check out their menu @ http://www.citaliandining.com

I did not do a great job taking pics of my trip to Angeles. So I had to steal a few from AE’s report…

A few pics from The Cherry Dinner

Jung’s appetizer. Yep he ate the whole thing !!! Hee hee…

Netguard’s appetizer… Well actually he ate 14 of these appetizer’s before the main course… hee hee

I passed a little gas and cleared the room….

Anyway this dinner was great. I met a lot of great people and felt welcomed by all. We ate a lot. I mean the food just kept coming. Dish after dish hit the table and everything was great. The owner, Chris, certainly knows how to feed a table of people. I only ate at a few different places during my stay in Angeles and the food was good but not like C’Italian.

After dinner we had more drinks and hung out in the adjoining room for awhile before they took me on my first bar hop.

*******************************************************************************

We started at “My Bar” This is a great bar and like a “Newbie” I bar fined the first girl that clung to me. I was advised before starting this bar hop not to take the first girl I see but I liked her and decided that this will be the one to break my Cherry Bar Hop. She was great company and I knew that if I wanted to bar fine a different girl I could have. There was no need… she bar hopped with us all night and I really liked her company. Really… Most of the guys here will advise you not to bar fine the first girl you see and basically they are right but if you feel right about one of the first girls you see … I say go for it. You must understand that the guys giving advise, to someone new like me, have been in Angeles for quite some time and know a lot more than someone new, like me. I guess what I am trying to say is… If it feels right… Do it. Sometimes even the veterans from Angeles don’t know what is best for you personally. Yes … they have the best advice on living and visiting Angeles but can never guess on what type of girl you should bar fine first.

After leaving “My Bar” with the guys and this girl, Jung noticed immediately that this girl’s boyfriend was following us. This is something I probably would not have noticed. Just another reason to meet some people before you go to AC. Especially if you are traveling alone. This girl’s boyfriend was not looking for trouble he was just trying to intimidate his girl into deciding not to go out with me. Jung, Netgaurd and the guys took care of the situation in minutes.

We went to Alaska, Bunny Ranch, Blue Nile, Blue Nile Executive, Roadhouse and Insomnia.

Thank god someone was on top of taking pictures. Hee hee hee I have a few pics of “My Bar” and then the next photos on my camera are of me poppin’ my cherry at the hotel with my first bar fine. I think a few of the AE members took pics. Thanks for that guys… I guess I was a little preoccupied with her little ass gyrating on my lap all night.

I had a great time with her. I was advised NOT to bar fine the same girl again… (not because she was a bad bar fine) but because the person advising me wanted me to go with a different girl for obvious reasons. I decided that I wanted another night with this girl and bar fined her again anyway. She was a nice girl with a perfect little @#$%^ and just wanted to see her again. So I did…I can’t remember where the fuck we went this night. We started at “My Bar” and had some drinks with the manager. Great Guy…. Then I am pretty sure we went to meet Jack and Gordy but where???? Maybe one of them can jog my memory…

I had a great time.

***********************************************************************************

So now… back to the girl I came to meet….

I had a few nights of fun and decided to find out if “D” was for real. I had an offer to go to a BBQ but decided that I just had to find out for myself if the girl I came to meet was telling me the truth.

Remember “D” told me she worked at El Sombrero…

Anyway I went to El Sombrero with the girl I bar fined. I sent her in with a picture and told her to ask the owner if she had ever worked there. She came out with a sad look on her face and said “Sorry Red, He has only seen her in El Sombrero eating and never hired her”. So I tipped my bar fine girl and sent her on her way.

***********************************************************************************
Well I just about gave up on the girl I came to meet and was ready to spend the rest of my trip bar fining the lovely selection of woman there on Fields Ave. I went back to Wild Orchid for some eggs, showered and took a nap. The afternoon power nap is great because you just ate some food before the nap and you wake up thirsty for beer. Hee Hee

A few hours later it was time for the La Pasha girls to show up for work again. I found myself at Kokonutz again looking to see who would filter into La Pasha. I was approached by the same nasty freelancer from the last time I was at Kokonutz. I told her politely that I did not want any company. To my surprise she left me alone. I thought for sure that it would take awhile to get rid of her but she just said “OK” and left me alone.

Again… I did not see “D” go in to La Pasha to work. So I went in and asked the manager if he knew her. I showed him her picture and he said “NO, I don’t know her”… he then asked the Mama at La Pasha if she knew this girl….. AND TO MY SURPRISE … the Mama said “She has not worked here for about 8 months… she has a boyfriend from NYC sending her money and chooses not to work at the bars anymore”.

Once I learned that she was telling me the truth about working at the bars… I called her immediately. She was very surprised to find out I was in AC unannounced and said she will be at La Pasha in minutes.

We met at La Pasha within the next half hour… Finally I saw her face for real. This was pretty cool for me. Here I am a half a world away and meeting someone that I have chatted with for 8 months. To me, this was pretty cool. I am sure members here have heard many stories like this and it is nothing new to the veterans of AC but I thought it was great to finally see a face I have known for so long.

I apologized for showing up unannounced and explained to her that I knew she never worked at EL Sombrero even before I got my tickets to come to Angeles. Then I told her that I went there in the afternoon and confirmed this fact myself. I asked “How honest have you been with me over last 8 months”.

She started to cry…. she admitted to me that she never had worked at El Sombrero! She said “I told you that I had that job there because I was so embarrassed that I did not find a job outside the bars yet”.

I guess I put this pressure on her because after sending her money to keep her from the bar scene, I asked her to help me help her and find a job outside of the bars.

We talked for an hour or so at La Pasha and then I got text messages from the boys at AE. They said they were on a bar hop and invited us along.

So… we went to meet the AE guys and I had a great time. She, on the other hand, did not. During our bar hop, at any given time, there was an AE member questioning “D”. I saw this happening and I was grateful that the AE guys were looking out for my best interest. I let it all happen because I knew if there was a question left unanswered these guys would find it out.

Did they behave? Yes, of course they did … there was no mention of the girl I had bar fined the nights before and I appreciated their candor. They asked her many questions about her life in the Philippines and asked many questions about my relationship with her. I must say that I watched as she was drilled with these questions … but I knew it had to be done. I listened in a little and like cops these guys new what to ask and asked quickly. I felt bad for her but she should have never lied to me. Had she just told the truth none of this would have been happening.

Anyway… I had a great time that night and I thank the guys that were trying to help me find out if this girl was for real. For you readers that were not there, realize that this is the first time AE members met “D”. They were very concerned about my well being and only tried to help me in my plight to have a relationship with a filipino bar girl.

Some pics from that night…

**********************************************************************************
Well… that night I finally took “D” to my hotel room. She was very upset. She started to cry and told me how upset she was about all of my new friends questioning her. She said… “Red, Why do all of your friends question me? … Didn’t you tell them about me? … Didn’t you tell them that I never worked in a bar after you helped me? … Didn’t you tell them that we have chatted for 8 months? … Didn’t you tell them that I was honest and for real”?

Once again I was honest with her and told her that I had doubts about her and that is why I came to AC unannounced. She turned to me and said … “Goodbye Red, Maybe you will find out that I am honest. Maybe your friends will tell you different. Maybe you will see that I have fallin for you. Maybe you will see me as I am. Maybe you will decide to trust me. My God Red, I hope you see the truth”… She turned and left my room… As she was at the door I asked “Are you sure you want to leave”? … She said “I am sorry I lied to you about working at El Sombrero but I was embarrassed that I did not find a job. I have no other lies to hide and it is up to you to figure that out”. She turned and left.

Well at this point I just felt awful. I could see in her face that she was the real thing and I also saw complete honesty in her eyes. I know she was being honest.

On the other hand, I was a little pissed off. I traveled thousands of miles, spent 24 hours in a plane, sent her money for months and she left!?!?! :angryfire: To top it all off I had not had a good cup of coffee in days. (Is there a good cup of coffee in Angeles if there is I missed it…)

I called her cell and told her that we only have limited time and if she wanted to work this out it would have to be tonight. She came back and we talked for a long time. In the end she understood why some of my new friends asked her all of those questions and understood that if she had not have lied about her job as a waitress none of this would have happened. I also reminded her of the time SHE told me that “all” the girls there lie. She realized she was wrong and forgave me and all the guys that questioned her.

The next morning at breakfast she got a text from Robinson’s Mall saying that they have a job offer for her. So she went home to get her little sister, change and shower. She came back to Wild Orchid and we took a trike to Robinson’s mall. She met the manager of the dumpling stand and got the job. Since we where at the mall I asked if she needed any food for home. She said “That would be great let’s go shopping”. I guess shopping and women is something that goes hand in hand all over the world. Hee hee hee.

I loaded a carriage full of food. I was so surprised at how many items I picked out she had never tried. Well… I was soon to find out why. We loaded a couple of trikes up with the food and went to her place.

She opened the door and said “Welcome to my mansion”.

My god… She lives with two brothers (18 and 20) and two sisters (5 and 14) in a place barely fit for one person. Her kitchen and fridge had no food. The smell in the hallway was awful. Her place had no windows. They kept the place clean but the condition of the walls and floors made it impossible to look like a nice place. She sleeps with her sisters on a mattress and the her brothers throw a mat on the kitchen floor to sleep. Well it only took a few seconds for me to realize that if I was a beautiful young woman living like this, I would be working the bars too. In fact… I would be working the streets, bars, hotels, or wherever.

My god I couldn’t believe this young lady lived only to help her family. She could have easily sent her family back to Samar and lived better if she just took care of herself. She is not selfish and I immediately saw how much she loved her siblings.

After her family happily unpacked all the food and stocked their shelves and fridge I invited them all to go swimming and have dinner at Wild Orchid. I am a single man but I must say I had a great time with all of them. Her brothers and I played pool and drank beer while the ladies went swimming. We ordered food and just had a great time. When it got late and the little one came down off of her Coca-Cola high “D’s” siblings went home.

The next morning we went and picked up the little one and went shopping again for some clothes she needed for work. While we where shopping I asked if the little one needed some new shoes “D” said “She has never had shoes.” I guess all this girl ever had was those cheap rubber flip flops. So we bought her a couple of outfits and a few pairs of sneakers and shoes.

This whole family thing and getting involved with a girl so many months before coming to Angeles was definitely an eye opener. Seeing how these kids are growing up is something I will never forget.

After shopping her family all came to swim and play pool again.

Dinner time came (Well… an 11 pm dinner time) and I got a text from Jack asking if I was going out. I invited him to dinner with “D” and the whole family and I was happy to here that he would join us. We tried to go to Azzuro but they had closed. We went to Bourbon Street instead and I thought the food was good. After dinner it was time for “D” and her family to go home. They all had work or school to go to the next morning and we sad good night. “D” sad she wanted to get some rest because she started work the next day and told me to have a good time with Jack.

***********************************************************************************

YEAH !!! …. BAR HOP !!! …

Jack and I started at Lancelot. One of the few places I visited that had German beer. I am a beer drinker and for those of you planning a trip to Angeles be aware that the beer selection is extremely limited. San Miguel is everywhere and it is a decent beer. It is definitely better than a lot of the fast brewed beers that are so common in the US. But in my opinion it pales in comparison to a lot of German, Belgian and Micro Brewed beers from America. If you are an american beer drinker you will have plenty of good beers to choose from and I am sure you will find San Miguel a tasty beer that really goes down well. If you are a beer drinker that likes beers from all over the globe be prepared to have a small selection. I did not find one dark beer in Angeles.

The beer selection was no big issue on my trip. The fun outweighs the beer choices by far. I am just getting picky!!!

Finally a pilsner glass at Lancelot…. MMM German Beer…

More pics from that night…

I bar fined another…. Pics do not do her justice she was absolutely beautiful…

This is at 7 am at Doll House…. She was a trooper and bar hopped with Jack and I all night…

This girl was so hot. This was a lucky man.

Anyway… Once again I had a great time with Jack and we finally said goodnight at about 8 am….

My goodness what a great town…

I hardly remember when this girl left the room. It had to be around 2 pm. I went back to sleep and woke up to a text from “D” telling me she had a dinner break.

***********************************************************************************

I went to meet “D” for her break at Robinson Mall. She was eating at Jolibee’s. I noticed her 46 peso meal ticket and asked her why she would eat this crap knowing that she worked a half of a day for this unhealthy meal. She spent a half of a days salary on a meal that did not look like any meat I have seen before. Do these girls no math?

I went to Wild Orchid and watched TV until she was done with her work. After work she came to my room and I decided to take a shower. While I was in the shower she turned on my camera and saw all the pics of the bar hop Jack and I had. She saw me with the girl I bar fined and asked if I bar fined her. I told her that I did. I knew this was a mistake but I did not come all this way to lie to someone. I tried to explain to her that we are not married and there are no ties that say I can’t date someone else. Well, as you can imagine, this did not go over very well. I think it is acceptable to sleep around if you are just dating or trying to find the one you want to be serious with. As long as you are honest about your sex life we can all make decisions from there. I guess this is not the case with a filipino girl. I kind of thought that she would understand me seeing that she too had multiple partners a week when she worked in the bars. She was in the bar scene for years, I am sure she had more partners then I have ever had.

Well you live and learn. Guess I should have lied to her… but fuck that… I am a single man on vacation and “D” and I are not married. I came there to see if we were compatible and have a good time. They day we decide to be “boyfriend and girlfriend” I will stop sexual relations with others.

She did not understand any of this and stormed out.

***************************************************************************
Well… what do you do when a girl storms out of your hotel room in Angeles…

YEAH !!! BAR HOP !!!

I went directly to Lancelot and met Maik (the manager) for some beer. I sent Jack a text and he showed up for some drinks. Jack sent Gordy a text and there we were drinking again.

We talked about what I had admitted to “D” and the guys basically said that I fucked up. I guess the filipino woman would rather be lied to then try to work out serious issues about dating. Well this might be a problem for “D” and I in the future. I don’t like to lie about any sexual partners I have had and this openness might be something she can’t handle. We have not decided to be “boyfriend and girlfriend” and I still don’t feel I am wrong… Am I?

I bar fined again… The girl was a little heavier and not as young as my last bar fines but she was great company and better in bed.

Some pics from that night…

Well Gordy went to meet a girl that had sent him a text message and Jack hung out for another drink until he felt the need to bar hop again. Jack went to meet Gordy and I stayed at Lancelot with my bar fine and Maik for another beer or two.

As Lancelot was closing I received a text from Jack to meet them at Brown Sugar. So off we went. Can you believe once again I did not take one picture of the dancers at Brown Sugar!!! I am such a loser. Well buy the time I got to Brown Sugar Gordy had decided to go home. So again I am closing a night into the morning with Jack.

Fuck the Energizer Bunny !!! Jack puts that little pink shit bastard to shame.

Well it is 7 am again and I was ready for bed. I said goodnight to Jack and took the bar fine to the hotel.

Sorry… she didn’t like me to take pictures of her…

************************************************************************************

About 1 pm or 2 pm that same day I tipped the girl I bar fined and thanked her for her time…

I laid in bed thinking of the past bar fines, the partying and of “D”. I spent the rest of the day and night alone. “D” sent me a text message that night after her work and I just told her that I would be spending the night alone. I was still a little mad that she walked out on me the night before. I had a few text messages this night and told everyone I was staying at the hotel and not going out.

After a full nights rest I walked downstairs for coffee at about 8 am and who did I see there? Yep… just the guys I needed to talk too. Tom and Kim !!! I told them all about what has happened between “D” and I. They gave me sound advice and by about 9 am or 10 am they took their car home.

As I ordered my breakfast it hit me …!!!… I had tipped girls that I have bar fined more money then “D” could make in months working at the mall. I ate my breakfast, went to my room and waited to hear from her. She sent a text on her dinner break and I went to the mall to meet her.

I see once again that she has a 52 peso personal pizza she is eating. OK… better food choice from the last time but she still worked a half day for this pizza. Realizing that working for slave wages at this mall she would never get on her feet and start to make a better life for herself. So I offered to support her until she found a job that was fair. Well … as fair as a job can be in Angeles without selling her body.

I told her to go upstairs and say that she had to quit work because her Grandma is sick in her province and needed her help. She did but came back downstairs and said that they are short handed and she agreed to finish the week. I told her to call me when she was done with work and ready to go out.

I went to meet Jack and Gordy. We hit Neros, Blue Nile, and Blue Nile Executive. “D” called when she was ready and said she wanted to spend the night with me and not go bar hopping. So I left Jack and Gordy and met “D” at Wild Orchid. Over some food and drinks she forgave me for my past bar fining activities and we had a nice time.

The next night there was a band at C”Italian and It was my last chance to hook up with some of the AE members that did not go out during the week. “D” had to finish her work week and missed the band and dinner. Once again I had a great meal.

“D” called and I went to pick her up to bring her back to C’Italian. We met at Wild Orchid and she decided that it was our last night together and we should stay in. Of course, I accepted.

On my last day in AC I had this overwhelming feeling that I should extend my trip. So (of course) I called Jack and went to Action Travel to try to extend my trip. The girls at Action Travel were willing to dive in and make all the changes necessary but we decided that it was too late to make changes to 3 flights and 3 car transfers on such little notice. Like a fool I showed up there hours before my flight from Manila. I should have went to Action Travel the day before and all would have been much easier.

With thoughts of spending more time with “D” and some AE members I did not party with enough, I regretfully packed my bags. Action Travel sent a van and “D” and I were on the way to MNL airport. It was a nice but sad trip to the airport. We rapped up a lot of feelings that we had for each other and we decided to continue this new relationship.

We said goodbye and I left “the girl I came to meet”.

Well there you have it! I started a relationship with someone I have wanted to meet for a long time, made a lot of new friends, bar fined girls, partied, drank beer and just had a great time.

I did not get to party enough with some off the members from Asian Escapades but I will catch up with those guys next time. It was not easy to try to spend time with all of the guys from AE, spend time with a girl and her family and spend time with some of the lovely ladies on Fields Ave. But I did a little of each and I can’t wait for my next trip.

My only advice for a Newbie, like me, that is planning a trip to Angeles City would be……

#1. Listen to the guys on this site !!! They are great people!!! They spent a lot of there free time to help me on my first trip before I got to Angeles and as I was in Angeles. All the info you need on bars, restaurants, hotels and travel is right here on Asian Escapades. Look around and if you can’t find a piece of information on Asian Escapades there will be plenty of help to lead you to the information you seek.

#2. On your first trip to Angeles City… DO NOT have any obligations… Yeah… it was great to meet someone I have chatted with for a long time but do something like that on your second or third trip. On your first trip you should be free. TRUST ME !!! When you hit Fields Ave. for the first time you will be glad you can spend your time any way you want to.

#3. Read #2 again.
Till next time….

Preparing For Your Trip

“There is much pleasure to be gained from useless knowledge.” – Bertrand Russell

Research, Research, Research!

I do not think that one can be too prepared for a trip. As this is the case this will be one of the longest sections to this guide as I will try to cover as much as I can to get you familiar with everything you will need to know and if it is not here in this section you will have a ton of links to find the answer to the question I don’t cover.

I suggest doing all you can and plan for as much as you possibly can before you make your visit so that once you get here no surprises will spoil your holiday. Of course emergencies and situations come up but with the right kind of planning you can minimize the chances of something happening to spoil your vacation.

You are already doing one of the best things you can do to prepare for your trip and that is reading this guide. There is also a ton of information out there on many web sites all devoted to helping you get the most out of your money and time in Angeles City.Always good to know about any weather problems coming along that might affect your travel or time whilst in the Philippines. There are many sites on the web which track major storms but one of the best is Typhoon2000.They will follow all major storms in the area and have excellent graphics as you can see from this sample to the left. There literally thousands of sites to help you research your trip. Some of these sites are, but not limited to:

Asian-Escapades: A pay site with a board, photos, reviews, and more devoted to Asian travel.

Gotophil: Another pay site that has pictures, a board and occasional news items from Angeles City.

Angeles2 Board: A message board where many questions can be answered. But beware, a lot of false information is here to and there are a lot of people who post there that are not so pleasant.

TSM: A pay site devoted to the Travel of the Single Male.

Wow Philippines: The official Philippine tourism site.

Philippine Travel – Travel advisory and tips on the Philippines.
Travel Information of the Philippines – Self titled, travel info for the Philippines.
Lonely Planet Guide to the Philippines – Very nice travel guide.
Local Time in the Philippines – 8 hours ahead of GMT
Journeys to the Philippines – One man’s views on his travels.
Philippine Consulate – Tourism/Business/Travel/Information Pages.

Immigration Law Net – A site with information on most immigration questions.
US State Department – Consular affairs, passport and visas.

Here are some links to Philippine online newspapers:

The Manila Times

Filipino Reporter

The Filipino Express

Philippine Daily Inquirer

The Manila Bulletin

And many more! Simply put the words Philippines and Tourism into any search engine and you will find thousands of sites to get information from.

The best thing to do is read everything you can and then make your own decisions. I also suggest you get on the various message boards and lurk for a while and learn which posters information you can trust and then use these to get any unanswered questions resolved. You can’t have too much information and be over prepared. Now don’t think I’m being paranoid as there is obviously a point that you will get overwhelmed with all the information, but take all advice just don’t feel obligated to follow it. Once you get to Angeles and experience you will discover how much was bola bola (false) and how much was truth. You then in turn can help the next newbie with information and together we will all make Angeles a better place and more enjoyable for all.

I will go into hotels, restaurants, and club options in later sections of this guide but realize that those opinions are just that: opinions. Read all you can about the different options then decide on what is best for you.

But first let’s discuss a few things you should do and think about well before your trip.

Passport and visa requirements.

Passport: Yours must be valid for at least six months beyond the last day of intended stay.

Visa: There is no visa required for a stay of up to 21 days. If you plan to stay longer, you will have to apply for an extension at the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation, Magallanes Drive, Intramuros, if staying in Manila or on 7th street in Dau if staying in Angeles City.

Visas are required for business travelers. (If holding passport stamped “Executive Order Number 226,” a visa not required.) Children 15 years old and younger must obtain a visa, regardless of length of stay, if not accompanied by at least one parent; youths must also have a consent document issued by a Philippines Consulate. Visas may be obtained through the Embassy of the Philippines, 1600 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036. Their phone number is (202)467-9300. Visas may also be obtained from the Philippines Consulates General in Chicago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, or San Francisco.

Many times a visitor extends his trip once getting here as he discovers that 21 days just isn’t long enough. Well don’t worry; there are many ways to extend your trip once here. You can do it yourself at the immigration branch office here in Angeles City or have one of the local travel agents do it for you. Action Travel located in Kokomo’s, Beeline Travel, or the Swagman offices can process the paperwork for you although handling it yourself is no hassle and also cheaper.

The local office is on 7th Street in Dau which is just a quick trike or taxi ride from Field’s Ave. If you do decide to go to the office yourself make sure you wear pants as they do insist on this. I have heard stories of the guard not even letting people in the door unless dressed conservatively so do yourself a favor and wear something nice but casual. The same outfit you wore on the airplane over will do nicely, but more on clothes in a bit. Back to your visa…

In about 20 minutes and for about 2000 pesos you can get a visa waiver which will allow you to stay for 38 days. If you are past your 21 days you will get assessed a 500 peso fine so make sure you get this waiver before your 21 days are up. The phone number to this office is (045)892-6110 and is a local call from Angeles City.

The following items are also required by law but on my many trips I have never been asked for them but better to be safe than sorry.

Documents for onward travel: This includes onward or return plane tickets; it also includes all documents required for entry to next destination. (If holding passport stamped “Executive Order Number 226,” no return/onward ticket is required.)

Adequate funds for stay: Not sure what they consider “adequate funds” but it is required by law so I thought I would mention it here.

International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever: Required if arriving within five days of having been in an infected area.

Other: Unaccompanied minors age 16 or 17 years or minors under 18 accompanied by one parent must carry a notarized letter of consent to travel. It must be signed by the absent parent.

While on the topic of airports and travel through them a departure tax is charged for domestic and international departures in the Philippines. The departure tax for international flights is 550 pesos; for domestic flights it is 100 pesos. Children under age two are exempt. Transit passengers are exempt as long as they remain in the transit area and do not leave the airport between flights.

Also while talking of airports let’s take a moment and go over entry and export restrictions.

Philippines detailed customs guidelines include limits on the duty-free import of tobacco and alcohol.

For tobacco you are allowed up to 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams of pipe tobacco (passengers 18 and older only). For alcohol you can bring two bottles of alcoholic beverages of not more than one liter each (passengers 18 and older only). I have personally brought more than this with no problems before I knew the regulations but best to know what the legal limits are. Visitors carrying more than $3,000 US dollars are requested to declare the amount at the Central Bank of the Philippines counter located at the customs area.

Prohibited items:

  • Firearms and firearm parts, firearm replicas, ammunition and explosives
  • Printed subversive, obscene and pornographic materials
  • Drugs or substances for abortion
  • Gambling machines and articles, jackpot or pinball machines, lottery sweepstakes tickets, coin-operated video machines
  • Articles of gold, silver and precious metals without indications of quality
  • Misbranded and/or adulterated drugs or foodstuffs
  • Marijuana, poppy, coca leaves, heroin, opium or any other prohibited drugs; opium pipes and parts of opium pipes.

The Philippines takes its fight against illicit drug use very seriously so don’t even think of trafficking any illegal substances into the country.

Free export (by passengers 18 and older) of:

  • One quart of alcoholic beverages
  • 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 500 grams of tobacco.

Currency: Export of local currency is prohibited. Foreign currencies may be exported up to the amount declared upon arrival.

Antiques: may not be exported without a certificate from the National Museum.

Health Concerns:

“I consider myself an expert on love, sex, and health. Without health you can have very little of the other two.” – Barbara Cartland

Now is as good a time as any to talk about some health concerns while traveling in the Philippines. I do not share this information to try and scare you or dissuade you from making a trip here but feel that this information should be known so you can make your own decisions.

Food/Water Safety:

Bottom line on water: Drink bottled water when in the Philippines!

Unlike in other countries, the Philippines’ water problem is not due to its shortage but to its uneven distribution. This inequity is worsened by mismanagement of water catchments, deforestation and pollution of water sources by factories and households. In 1992, the delivery of water supply and sanitation services in the Philippines became the responsibility of local government units (LGUs) instead of the national government. The intention was to place responsibility for the sector closer to the population. However, several years later, there has been little improvement in the water situation in rural areas. This is because as long as they remain financially and technically ill prepared for the task, the LGUs will never be able to adopt an integrated resources management approach. National government agencies face similar problems, caused by insufficient budgets and lack of personnel with expertise. In many cases, and particularly in rural areas, the private sector is in no position to offer a viable alternative. This problem is serious, because one of the principal social development prerequisites for the majority of the Philippines’ population (the poor) is access to reliable and safe water supplies, adequate sanitation facilities and efficiently operating distribution systems.

According to Dr. Peter H. Gleick of the Pacific Institute for Environment (PIE), the country happens to have 323 km3 per year of total renewable freshwater supply, third most bountiful in Southeast Asia after Indonesia and Malaysia. But think again. Of that amount, the country can only withdraw a total of 29.5 percent yearly.

Dr. Gleick, in his January 2000 edition of The World’s Water says, the Philippines will need some 393 percent of total water withdrawal starting this year 2000 until the next ten years. For the moment, only 18 percent can be withdrawn from the renewable freshwater supply for domestic use, 21 percent for industrial use and 61 percent for agricultural use.

Nationwide, the government’s National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) estimates that only 67 percent of the total population of 75 million have access to clean drinking water and almost 35 percent have access to water for sanitation.

So while here only drink recognized brands of sealed bottled water that have a license to produce. Raw sewage, industrial and agricultural wastes contaminate Philippine water supplies. For example there are reported high levels of heavy metals contaminating the Boac and Makulapnit Rivers. In March of 1996 an unused drainage tunnel at the bottom of a mine tailings disposal pit on Marinduque Island collapsed, flooding the 26 km. Boac and Makulapnit rivers and nearby coastal waters with some 4 million tones of mine tailings, effectively killing the rivers, covering corals in the sea and severely affecting at least 20,700 villagers. Public Works Secretary Gregorio Vigilar said safe drinking water may be scarce in Manila in five years unless more homes are linked to sewage treatment systems. Only 10 percent of 800,000 households are connected to the sewer system. The rest use tanks that dump waste into canals and contaminate underground water. If left unchecked, the contamination could severely limit the supply of safe drinking water, Vigilar said. A recent cholera outbreak in Manila killed seven people and sickened 310.

It is best not to even take the chance and stick to bottled water.

There are also dangers of drinking liquids with ice that has been made with tap water and also eating food that has been washed using local water sources. This is a real danger especially if you are susceptible to these problems. But even if you have traveled widely without catching a bit of traveler’s diarrhea, you might meet your match here in the Philippines. Make sure you bring some Imodium with you or some other medicine to combat this.

Many doctors also recommend you avoid eating local seafood; local marine waters are polluted as well. For example mercury has been reported in shellfish in Honda Bay, Palawan. If you are going to eat seafood (which many do with no reported problems) make sure you eat thoroughly cooked foods served hot.

In 2001, the Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines issued an urgent warning to the public against eating large carnivorous predator fish in response to 50 cases of food poisoning from eating ciguatoxic barracuda. I would avoid eating barracuda and other carnivorous reef fish while traveling in the Philippines.

Hazardous Plants & Animals:

There are also some animal hazards in the Philippines to be aware of. Especially beware of free roaming dogs which there are many in Angeles City. The Philippines has the third highest rate of rabies cases in the world. Approximately 400 to 500 cases of human rabies are reported each year. Some other animal hazards to be wary of include cobras, centipedes, scorpions and black widow spiders. Philippine coastal waters are home to stingrays, jellyfish, nettles, sea cucumbers, sea wasps, sea urchins, anemones and the Indo-Pacific man-of-war. If you have allergies to any of these animals make sure you have appropriate medicines available or advise people with you during times you could be at high risk (like when scuba diving for example) of your condition so they will know how to help you best should you require it.

Travel health risks in the Philippines:

This information was gathered from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Traveler’s diarrhea: This is commonly caused by bacteria. Diarrhea in travelers can also be caused by parasites and, to a lesser extent, viruses. Contaminated food and water pose the greatest risk. This is the most common illness in travelers.

Typhoid fever: This is transmitted by contaminated milk, water and food. Food can be infected directly by water that is used in washing and preparation and by human carriers. Raw shellfish from contaminated waters are likely to be infected. This can cause acute gastrointestinal symptoms.

Cholera: This is transmitted directly through food or water contaminated with fecal material from an infected person. Can cause acute gastrointestinal infection (a recurring theme?). Outbreaks have been reported (November 2001) in the communities of Kagbanaba, Jipapad and Eastern Samar.

Hepatitis A: This causative virus is commonly transmitted through food, water or milk contaminated by fecal material. Known as infectious hepatitis, it is an acute inflammation of the liver.

Malaria: Malaria is caught through mosquito bites. Sadly this is a preventable infection characterized by high fevers and chills. It can cause rapid death through shock and multiple organ failure if not treated promptly. Malaria is present in rural areas at low elevations (below 600 meters). There is no risk in metropolitan Manila or urban areas. The risk exists year- round, but is greater May through November.

Malaria information for the Philippines:

Area of Risk: Rural only. No risk in provinces of Bohol, Catanduanes, Cebu and metropolitan Manila. Malaria transmission in the Philippines is largely confined to rural areas not visited by most travelers; most travel to rural areas in the Philippines is during daytime hours when the risk of exposure is minimal.

Chloroquine resistance: Confirmed in Islands of Basilian, Luzon, Mindanao, Mindoro, Palawan and Sulu Archipelago.

Prophylaxis: chloroquine, mefloquine, malarone or doxycycline.

Dengue fever: This is also transmitted through mosquito bites. Mosquitoes are active in daylight hours in both urban and rural areas. Present throughout the country. Dengue outbreaks are common in densely populated areas: Quezon City; Manila; Bacolod; Bulacan; Nueva Ecija; and Benguet. Risk of outbreak is higher during the wet months, May through November. In 2001, 15,600 cases and 118 fatalities were reported.

Japanese encephalitis: Again this is caught through mosquito bites. Risk is greatest if living for prolonged periods in rural, endemic areas. There have been outbreaks reported in Nueva Ecija, Luzon and Manila. Japanese encephalitis occurs year round and is also more prevalent during the rainy season May through November. There may be an elevated risk in January through March because of rice crop irrigation.

Schistosomiasis: This is a parasitic infection spread by free-swimming larvae that penetrate the skin though only found only in fresh water. Avoid swimming and wading except in well-chlorinated swimming pools. Swimming and wading should be avoided in Leyte, Samar, Mindanao, southern Luzon and the east coast of Mindoro and Bohol Islands.

Rabies: This disease is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, usually by a bite. The degree of risk to the traveler is largely dependent on activities and level of exposure to infected animals. Avoid petting or touching wild or stray animals. The Philippines ranks third in the world on a per population basis for incidence of rabies; believe it or not there is an average of 10 dogs for every human in the Philippines. Approximately 98% of the rabies cases come from dogs; 2% from cats. An estimated one-third of rabies cases are treated at San Lazaro Hospital in Manila. San Lazaro also functions as an animal bite treatment center.

Air Quality: Excessive air pollution, caused by industrial and transportation emissions, is reported in and around Manila, Philippines. According to latest World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, total suspended particulates were assessed at 200 micrograms per cubic meter. WHO annual mean guidelines for air quality standards are 90 micrograms per cubic meter for total suspended particulates. If you have asthma or other respiratory illnesses, consult with a health care provider prior to travel and carry sufficient medications.

Immunizations:

Required:

Yellow fever: This vaccine is required if traveling from an infected area and older than one year of age.

Recommended:

When possible, see your health care provider at least four weeks prior to your trip. All routine vaccinations should be current, including: polio, tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps and rubella. Influenza (flu) vaccine may also be advisable.

Hepatitis A: This is a two-dose series. This is generally recommended by doctors for all travelers regardless of destination. Hepatitis A /Hepatitis B are also available in a combined vaccine.

Hepatitis B: This is a three-dose series. Again this is generally recommended by doctors for all travelers regardless of destination. Hepatitis A /Hepatitis B are also available in a combined vaccine.

Typhoid: This is particularly important because of the presence of S. typhi strains resistant to multiple antibiotics. There is a one-dose vaccine or oral four-tablet sequence.

Japanese encephalitis: This is a three-dose series. This is needed for stays in rural, agricultural areas.

Rabies: This is recommended if you might be exposed to wild or domestic animals. These three-dose treatments are pre-exposure. Post-exposure treatment is still required for animal bite or contact.

Again let me state that this information was not meant to overwhelm you or scare you into not coming. Most of this is general advice and I admit to not being fully immunized before any of my trips and have not had any problems. But you can’t say you are ignorant of the risks now, how you proceed is your decision.

Medical attention once in the Philippines:

Pharmacy service in the Philippines:

There are literally hundreds of pharmacies peppered all around Angeles City. You can get some prescription drugs by simply walking up and asking for them by name. I have seen many a foreign tourist walk up to one of these places and get everything from serious pain medication to Viagra. Also be aware that international brands of medications are available in major pharmacies. You won’t have to go for some knock off brand. Mercury is the largest chain of pharmacies in the Philippines though many are available from the larger chains surrounding hospitals to mom and pop places everywhere.

Some of the smaller pharmacies may not have what you are looking for so you may have to try the larger ones located towards AU hospital or elsewhere. The pharmacy located on McArthur next to Johnny’s Supermarket is pretty well stocked and I have had little problem getting what I need there

Hospitals:

Unfortunately there are some times we need medical attention when traveling. Here is a list of hospitals and contact information for some major cities in the Philippines.

Contact information for some other important places in the Philippines:

The Philippines country code is (63). Please remember the Philippines are 8 hours ahead of GMT.

If you are dialing a number in the Philippines from over seas you will need to drop the leading zero in the area code. For example a landline phone number in Angeles is something like 045-555-5555 and a cell phone number would be something like 0919-555-5555. If you were dialing these from the states it would be 63-45-555-5555 or for the cell 63-919-555-5555. If dialing within country you would need to add the zero back in and not use the country code, or in other words 045-555-5555 and for the cell 0919-555-5555.

Ok, I guess now is as good a time as any to discuss a little about terrorism in the Philippines. I know this is a topic that weighs heavy on a lot of minds especially those from the east coast in the states and in particular New Your City.

While it is true that there is a splinter group of nationalistic terrorists in the Philippines and it is also true that there have been some kidnappings here, the activity is mostly concentrated in the southern islands and even then around places that most tourists wouldn’t consider going anyway. There were some isolated events around the Palawan area but security has been beefed up tremendously in this region of the Philippines and reportedly the faction group leader that was preying on this location has been caught and is out of the terrorism business.

Ok, now that we have all that boring stuff out of the way, let’s talk a little more down to earth and some practical advice. You have your passport ready with any visas you might need, you have your plane ticket, you’ve reserved your taxi for airport pick up, (more on airlines and taxis in the next section), and you are a few days or a night away from your trip. It’s time to pack that bag!

What to pack and what to leave at home:

It is almost impossible to under pack. One can get by in Angeles on the bare minimum and buy everything you forgot to bring. For any trip of any length I suggest the same airplane wear. Wear a nice pair of slacks (Dockers or something like that) a nice shirt (I suggest something long sleeve that you can roll up your arms when you get a little warm) your heaviest pair of shoes you plan on bringing with you on the trip, with socks. These should be the heaviest clothes you will need for the entire trip. Often times I don’t wear these again (except the shoes) until the return trip. The reason for this is will be less you have to carry. This is a great way of bringing only a carry on. For a normal trip of around two weeks you shouldn’t have to check in any luggage. Given all that the following is a list I would suggest at a minimum.

For a two week vacation I suggest the following (not including what you wear on the plane):

3 changes of underwear. With what you’re wearing that will be four pair. This is plenty as laundry is available everywhere and not very expensive.

One pair of socks. This will be two with the pair you wear on the plane.

Pair of thongs. Not cheap shower shoes, a nice pair of flip-flops.

Sandals. Again, a nice pair like Tevo or something like that.

1 pair of pants. Some Dockers or some blue jeans.

4 pair of shorts. The kind with deep pockets.

4 to 5 shirts. Combination of T-shirts and Polo type shirts.

Shower items. Lot of options her that I will go into later.

Swim Suit: A must if you are planning on swimming.

Misc. Books, CD Player, Tape Player, Camera, etc.

…and of course cash, credit cards, ATM card, passport, etc.

That’s it! That is plenty for you to have a great trip. Anything else is a luxury and while nice to have, you won’t need it to have a great time. For a longer trip add minimum amounts of each item. Laundry services are so cheap it is easy to over pack clothes and have way more than you need. If you can avoid checking luggage do it as this will save you up to an hour or more upon arrival. The luggage retrieval in Manila is infamously slow. Often I have carry-on only and through immigration, customs, and in a cab headed towards Angeles in 15 minutes. Would have been faster but sometimes I was deep in the plane and got stuck behind some people in the immigration line. Conversely, once when I checked some luggage as I was brining a bunch of Christmas gifts, it took me 2 hours to get out of the airport.

Sometimes however it just isn’t practical to have only a carry-on. If you do check in luggage be patient on the other end as you will see more big boxes coming off the plane and traveling on the conveyor belt than you could ever imagine. Bring a book or listen to some music to pass the time.

What not to bring:

Laptop. It is not necessary to bring your own laptop. That is of course assuming you won’t need it for business, but on a pleasure seeking vacation there are a ton of Internet cafes with exceptional equipment available with many hotels even having their own for use that you won’t need to bring your own.

Clock. All hotels have wake up calls and services that are very reliable and you won’t have to pack this item. Of course the small travel alarms are so tiny that it won’t make much difference, but I am speaking of the large radio desk clocks I have seen some people bring with them when they travel.

Expensive jewelry. There is no need to have any of this as it will get in the way and affluence is not measured by opulence. You will get more attention and affection from women having a pleasant personality and showing some respect and acting nice than trying to impress with jewelry.

Expensive clothes. The same as jewelry. Wearing shorts and t-shirts is not considered rude or impolite. I’m not saying that you should wear clothes that are old and full of holes, but you won’t have to wear a tie or slacks every night to the clubs. But if there is a night you want to dress up a little and go to a better restaurant you’ll have the slacks you wore on the plane. There are some who wear nothing but pants so this wont apply, but if you do wear shorts, do yourself a favor and don’t pack but maybe one more pair.

Pagers and cell phones. These work on a different system then in the states and elsewhere and your coverage will not work. Unless it’s a tri-band cell that is, then go ahead and bring it and buy a SIM card for it here. Cell phones are cheap and if you need one you can get one for less than a hundred dollars. More on cell phones later.

The point of all this is you will not need all these gadgets and toys while you are here. This is a simple country with a simple people and there is plenty to keep you occupied during your trip. The basic packing list I presented is a starting point. Add or subtract to your particular needs, I just provide this to show you that not much is needed to have a great trip.

Other advice for you to plan and prepare for before your trip:

Personal Grooming:

The Filipina is a very clean person. They spend literally hours a day cleaning or taking care of them selves. The same grooming habits in the men they like to meet are highly coveted. Get used to washing thoroughly. I mean thoroughly! The Philippines is a very humid place and you will probably end up taking 2 or 3 showers a day. A clean person is much more attractive than an unkempt one. So start that scrubbing now. Get all those nooks and crannies that you usually just glance over in your daily showers. I suggest start using one of those scrubbers or other good cleaning device. The girls will also enjoy using them if they are in your shower.

Speaking of that, here is some great advice on types of shower items to bring. Before your trip take some time and go to a bath and shower place. Instead of just bringing regular soap like Ivory or something, buy some colorful scented soap. Not perfume scented or anything like that, but a lilac or vanilla, or something like that. The girls love it and you will notice the difference. On that same note buy large bottles of a good shampoo. Again something colorful and looking out of the ordinary. A good red or purple works great for this. You can do the same for your hair brush and other toilet items as well. Get a nice salon brush for example, or bring a small make-up mirror. It’s these small touches that will make the girl enjoy herself with you when she spends time with you in your hotel and the rewards are numerous. Again I must stress that the Filipina is an immaculate creature and enjoys being around a man who takes care of himself.

That goes for facial hair too. If you aren’t too attached to that mustache, beard, or sideburns down to your chin, shave them off. For the most part (and this is a big generality) the Filipina likes a smooth face. I had a friend come over once with me and he had a goatee. After the first night he was down to a mustache and by the third he was clean shaven. I know this is a hard area for some, but it’s true. To tell the truth I miss my goatee as well, but better to be more attractive than less to the Filipina.

Also get used to wearing a strong deodorant and a nice smelling after shave or cologne. The Filipina really appreciates a nice clean and good smelling man. They will forgive a little extra weight, a lack of hair on the head, and even some social graces, but they do not forgive an unkempt man.

Study the language:

I am not saying become fluent or anything, but take the time to learn some basic words and phrases. While it is true that English is very prevalent here, even considered the second official language, there are words in English that are not the same as in your home country. I will go into this more in the section on Communicating Effectively, but for example it is called a CR and not a bathroom, it is a tissue and not a napkin (you say napkin and it means the female hygiene type), spread the butter is a must at breakfast, and so many more. So just study a little so you won’t be lost when you get here. This is also a great ice breaker with the girls. Show them you are trying to learn their language and their culture and you’ll hit a home run every time.

Get on the boards:

The various message boards out there have some of the best up-to-date information available. While it is true that there is a bunch of crap to wade through, there is also a ton of good information as well to be found. You can read about what events are upcoming and happening during your trip and get a good sense of which clubs are hot and which are not. You can read about which hotels and restaurants are worth frequenting and which to avoid. As always it is best to form your own opinion as most of what you read, even this guide, is tainted by the author’s experiences and background. However, you can quickly determine which posters are posting from their heart and which are posting from their ass.

Some of the boards to visit are:

AC2: The Angeles City 2 board is one of the oldest and most frequented boards out there. There have been good times and bad times, but over all you can get a lot of current events and news off this board with a lot of trip reports, pictures, with a good dose of spam. It is best to stay on as a lurker for a while before diving into the deep end of the pool. Sometimes you need a thick skin to be on this board as there are a ton of flamers that enjoy nothing more than tearing up new guys. Just realize that nothing is personal on there and don’t give too much personal information. If you have the right attitude and demeanor the AC2 can be a lot of fun.

Asian-Escapades: Obviously you’re reading this guide and I highly recommend joining this site as it has a ton of information and news on Angeles City and one of the friendliest boards with onsite people answering questions for newbies and even seasoned visitors. There are news letters and reports from Angeles and tens of thousands of pictures and many many videos to wet your appetite.

Gotophil: This is a board on another pay site run locally here in Angeles City. Although they have trip reports and people posting from other places such as Thailand, the main focus still seems to be on the Philippines and in particular Angeles City. 99% of the news items and about 70% of the posts are about this town. The good thing about this board is that it is only accessible by paying members. It is amazing what that does to filter out the trouble makers. While the traffic isn’t as strong as the AC2, you are more likely to get honest answers to your questions.

TSM: This board is a hit and miss. While it is on a pay site and that generally means that you weed out all the trolls and flamers, many times wars break out on this board between the Asian crowd and the Latin American crowd. They have tried to segregate the boards and still these seem to happen. However the board still has some unique posters you won’t see on the other boards while the first listed have a lot of the same guys posting to all of them. The TSM site also has many trip reports so a historical view can be seen however when I read through these when I was a member I always seem to ask myself, “Where was this guy?“ as even though he is writing about Angeles City, it seems completely foreign to me and totally opposite of my viewpoints. However saying all that if you have the money and want to join, there is some valuable information here.

Some boards and Internet sites to stay away from:

The Wild West Board, AD2T, Gossip board, and Angeles City News are all boards that are for the most part just spill over of the main AC2 board and full of repressed men who are sitting around their house bored to tears and just want to start some flames. There is more bad information and pure gossip on these boards then anywhere else. Another bad thing about these boards is that you can post as anyone you want. I have never posted on any of these boards but posts from my name are constantly being posted. If want some irreverent humor and no serious information by all means visit and have fun. Just realize that it is a sewer and nothing really there to help you.

Jade Cool, Filipina Spice, Adult Club, Tri Cams, and other Filipina chat sites: While these sites are a lot of fun and you can meet and talk with some lovely Filipinas, they are full of deceit, games, and cons. The whole point of these sites is for you to be hooked on the Filipina charm. While this is true, the other stuff they spout out at you is not true. You can quickly become jaded with the Filipinas promising the moon and delivering nothing. But, if you realize this going in and visit these sites just for pure pleasure, no problem, knock your self out and have fun. But if you are planning your first trip I would suggest waiting until you got back home and have spoken to these beautiful Filipinas in person before getting some incorrect preconceived notions by visiting these chat sites on speaking to the Filipina for the first time online.

Summary:

The last thing I can suggest you do before you make the trip is to convince a friend to go with you. As much of a great time you will have on your vacation in Angeles City, you will have more if there is someone there to share it with. But the bottom line is being prepared and taking the time to research where you’re going. This section is a great start and will get you here fully briefed but test out those links and get on those boards and you will know as much as a seasoned visitor well before you make your cherry trip.

Why

Life in the province…It will be different. There are of course monger opportunities here and we will report on them, but this section of AE will be used mostly for discussion about living away from all the glitz and glamour that is Angeles City and the strange and bizarre life which living on a beach affords.

We love AC and will never abandon her, no matter what. But the grand experiment of our move to Dumaguete is underway and we want to share it with you.

Read on and join in the roller-coaster ride that is province life.

Life on a beach…

Sounds good, right? The imagery running through your head right now is worth more than I could ever write here. So just take a moment and picture what you think life on a beach is and multiply it by 100. That is life here in Dumaguete.

But just what makes that possible and the events to actually get that dream beach front property is not a bed of roses, let me tell you. There were trials and tribulations aplenty which led up to finally sitting down on the beach with the wind blowing through your hair staring out at the playing turtles in your front yard.

But the question remains. Why leave Angeles City, a permanent vacation, to an isolated area like Dumaguete?

First of all, let’s face it. Life in AC’s not too shabby. I mean, what’s not to love? There are a ton of bars, great places to eat, good Expat support, great friends and of course we can’t forget the thousands of willing and able Filipinas just waiting there all seemingly for you. If you can’t find happiness in AC, you just aren’t looking hard enough.

So what makes a man want to leave?

Yup, it’s that ‘life on a beach’ thing again. That dream house right on the beach so close to the ocean that the pounding of the waves can be heard as you drift off into an island slumber. Hell, back in the real world I paid about a hundred bucks for one of those sleep machines which simulated all sorts of white noise sounds in an attempt to put the listener in a comatose like state to get some much needed rest.

While it had the ‘babbling brook’ and ‘forest rain’ setting, inevitably the switch always found its way to ‘pounding surf’ as this insomniac tried to catch 40 winks before heading back into the rat race early the next morning.

Yes, leaving the states was a no-brainer and done with little thought. AC was easy. It was a rescuing of a tired soul. I often tell people that although I am only 40 years old, it is not the years it is indeed the mileage. I needed AC and it probably saved my sanity.

Here on the beach that calming ocean sound is constant. Even now as I write this I can hear the waves pounding into the shore in a relentless battle between surf and sand.

Things slow down here and a pace of life is visibly slower even after only 3 to 4 days of being here. Yeah, I think I’m going to like it here. Sure I will miss the AC life, but it will be nice to visit there as a tourist and forget all those things that annoy there.

Drummer and I always joked that we would like to invent a pill that one could take every night before a bar hop which would make each night feel like the first night. You know, give that ‘deer in the headlight’ look that all cherry boys have. You forget about the vendors on the streets. You ignore the bad service. You forgive the constant ‘white face’ price gouging. You simply have a great time and appreciate all the great things Angeles City has to offer.

Well, I found the pill. It’s called province life.

Past the death lizards and snakes, past the 3 hour pizza runs and the wet salty dog running into the house, past the bug convention at dusk and the muddy foot trails posing as major roads, there is a charm to Dumaguete that makes it all worth while.

At least for now…

Because, let’s not forget. This is just a trial. I might go island crazy and start to look like Dustin Hoffman in Papillon trying to judge those ocean waves for escape routes. Just maybe friends in Angeles will hear a pounding on their doors some night from a runaway island boy looking for a place to crash in AC. I just don’t know yet what life in the province is going to be like.

But oh what a fun ride it will be…

Stay tuned for stories and reports on all aspects of province life. For better or for worse I won’t sugar coat anything about this grand experiment. You’ll get both the bad and the good about living here in Dumaguete.

Living the dream; life on a beach.

Until next time, that was a slice of province life…

Peace,

Deep Thoughts

The other day I was sitting in my den playing TIGER WOODS (2006) as I have done many times, and I noticed that on the 9th hole at St. Andrews my score was abissmal….how can that be, I consistantly score in the mid 40′s (per 18 holes) on this course. First I thought my controller was sticking, then I thought my swing was off, then I checked the wind gauge…….all to no avail. I remember thinking “what the hell are you doing wrong, you need to get your head in the game”, as it was a Tournament and of some importance. Then it struck me, my head WASN’T in the game.

I caught myself thinking about DADDY JERRY’S B-DAY BASH at the Alaska Club, what kinda games for the girls did he have planned. I was thinking about the CIA event at Roadhouse, and how much would they raise this year. I was thinking about the SOB at Confettis, what kind of bacchanalian events would they be holding. I was thinking if the Flamingo has gotten any better since the last time I was there last, as I am staying at the Orchid (as usual). I was trying to remember where exactly ACTION TRAVEL is so I can get my new AE Membership card when Im there. I was wandering if I would actually meet any boardmembers during my barhops. I was wandering if I can still get a bananaque mmmmmmmm.

The common theme is, I was thinking about my upcoming trip to AC (10 days and counting down). Normally I would be unwinding in my den after another drone like day at work (grocery manager). Playing a few rounds of golf on the good old PS2 keeps me from despair in the work-a-day world. For the past several days it has become increasingly difficult to concentrate on anything but “THE TRIP”.

It almost feels like my “cherry trip” all over again. The anticipation is almost unbearable. I actually look forward to boarding that plane and the 4 hour flight to LAX….the 2 hour layover….the 17 hour flight to GUAM….the 1 hour layover….the 5 hour flight to MANILA…..the 2 hour layover (waiting for luggage)….the 2-3 hour drive to Orchid Inn. OMG Im drooling now just thinking about it.

For those of you who live there (in paradise), you may not understand (or maybe you would). How can a trip to the Philippines make a middle aged man feel like a kid again???? Could it be that for a week (in my case 2) he can get away from everything for awhile and relax and do absolutly nothing, no thinking, no decissions, no problems, no nagging, etsc…. Could it be that he will have a chance to experience new culture and see new places and people, try exotic food, etc… I SAY NO. Its because he can go somewhere in the world, other than where he’s at now, spend time with beautiful young girls, drink to his hearts content, meet new friends (hopefully) that have some things in common, eat the same food he gets at home (for the most part). In short my friends, what draws him to the phils is LBFM’s….noone can deny.

I think I’ll go to bed now and have LBFMs dancing in my head. I will try to dream up some new position they have never tried before. I will go over my travel itinerary again. I will wash my clothes I am going to bring and iron my shirts and pants….again. I will make sure all things fit to 2 bags, because there is an extra charge for 3. I must remember to mail the Orchind Inn and make sure I get my AE 10% discount.

Happy mongering all………

Seduction Devices ….. Tickle Your Fancy ?

Nope, I’m not talking of ‘pocket rockets’ or MP3 players, but about devices used to entertain/amuse/seduce bar girls.

kregg6483′s comments about carving a face on a cucumber and taking it into the bars and talking to it were so interesting it seemed worthwhile expanding on the theme. Whilst on first reading you might think his idea is completely ‘cuckoo’, it is actually not as many old hands will tell you. Think about it for a moment, these girls stand on a stage up to 10 hours a day shuffling their feet to the same old music being leered at by older guys. The only break they get is being called down for a drink and maybe a stilted conversation which always seems to follow the same lines, what’s your name, how old are you, where are you from?

Most of the girls have had a rudimentary education, have never travelled abroad and have only a basic grasp of English, certainly not enough to grasp anything beyond the simplest joke. Worse, the newer girls, having had little experience of foreigners are slightly frightened of us.

As we all know, laughter is the best ice-breaker there is so how do we make them laugh? Simple, with visual humour. Benny Hill was a master at this along with Eric Sykes and more latterly Rowan Atkinson with his ‘Mr Bean’. Lets consider Mr Bean for a moment, he has to be the dumbest guy around with the situations he gets himself into yet he is funny. Thus a guy who walks into a bar and plonks down a cucumber with a face on it and talks to it . . . . well he is ‘dumb’ as well. The magic here is that it IS a cucumber rather than a glove-puppet that makes it work so well.

Over the years I’ve used many ‘ice-breaking’ devices as have my friends. I remember about my 2nd or 3rd trip to Angeles I had a ‘malibog meter’, in truth an illuminated bow tie. A guy wearing a tie is odd, a bow tie is odder and one that lights up is plain crazy. Thus on entering a bar, the tie was noticed and the girls would get curious. Eventually a waitress or whatever would ask what it is/why I’m wearing it and I would reply “It’s a Malibog Meter”, when I get malibog it lights up.

Of course if they wanted a demonstration they would have to make me malibog. At first just a flicker thus they started to compete with each other to get a brighter reaction. Needless to say in 9 cases out of 10 I’d have a dozen girls around me all thrusting their susus in my face and their hands down my trousers.

At one time in Thailand I stuck an 18″ long balloon inside one trouser leg. Most Thai bar girls grope the “crown jewels” within 2 minutes of sitting down, and obviously were shocked to discover such a monster. Some would even run away but within minutes a crowd would appear all eager for a grope!

Little clockwork ‘Willies’ are always good value, a titi walking across the stage really cracks the girls up. Pretty well anything works as long as it’s different and novel, in other words don’t all turn up with the same gag!

Uncle ‘Haniball’, an occasional contributor here, was a past master at amusing bar girls, he had an uncanny ability to maintain a dead-pan expression whilst telling the most outrageous stories. I’ve seen him reluctantly confess to being a Consultant Gynaecologist and allow himself to be persuaded to conduct an on the spot examination, another time he had injured his back sky-diving and so on. We once photographed each other wearing clerical collars (dog collars), printed business cards with the picture calling ourselves ‘Bishop’ or ‘Monsignor’, and explained to Thai Bar Girls that we were travelling ‘incognito’. Thus we could avoid being pestered for barfines if we wanted or allow ourselves to be ‘corrupted’. I fondly remember sitting in Rose Bar in Nana Plaza, (a small bar with a reputation for orally skilled ladies) with a couple of girls desperate to ‘corrupt’ a priest right there in the bar.

Another chum of mine would pull the ‘blind-man’ stunt, thus being allowed to get very ‘bold’ with his hands (even with cherry girls) whilst ‘seeing what they look like’. Stunts like this do, however, require straight-faced companions.

Whatever you do, try and be original and if the gag/stunt requires a team select them carefully, one snigger at the wrong moment and it’s blown. The rewards that come later back at the hotel room are always, in my experience, worth the effort.
